Nothing is for free

We teach all the girls living with us to help out in the daily routine in and around the house. Cooking, doing the dishes, cleaning, doing the laundry, etc. We want to prepare them for the future when they will be living on their own with a family of their own. The younger girls first learn to wash their underwear and socks, later they will learn how to wash their clothes and even later how to iron them. Learning how to iron is very important, because everyone wears a school uniform to school. They all do the cleaning together, all doing a part so it is never too much. Cooking is done three times a day and so the days when the girls are at home there is enough opportunity to help out. Washing and cutting vegetables, stirring the food and learning how to season it, it’s all part of the process.

Some girls don’t like to help, some just do it and others really like to do it. Either way, nothing is for free and so we will always have to make an effort and spend time and money to get things done.

But sometimes it is difficult, because not everybody has a good relationship with their family.
