What if you see an unconscious person lying in the street? Or you witness an accident and there are several people injured? What would you do? Would you be able to help? Would you be able to provide first aid until the ambulance arrives?
We, all the ‘mothers’ as well as the girls have just been trained on what to do in such situations. We have learned how to apply bandages, how to observe whether someone is still breathing and might need to be resuscitated. We practised using the AED and putting a person in the recovery position. It was very instructive because we were able to put the course material into practise. The exercises were mostly hilarious despite the seriousness of the material; it was good for staff teambuilding and strengthened relationships among the children.
We are grateful for the two volunteers who came all the way from the Netherlands to teach us. They also found sponsors, so we now have an AED at Baan Phak Phing for us and the people from the neighborhood to use in case of an emergency.
